1 of 5 Hate your prop rod! This is not the answer! Friday, May 22, 2026
Reviewer: Kris Lessley from Derby, KS United States
At its very design it is putting all the pressure on the hood of the car because it doesn't fit and no matter the low profile screws and the videos touting that you get rid of your prop rod this kit is doomed by its design. The hood on the Miata is mounted to the car at hard point hinges and it latches at a hard point at the front and when you install this it bulges the hood upwards and they show this in the video. Unfortunately I went ahead and purchased this kit and installed it and immediately realized this is not the answer and took it off. If you read other reviews one person actually states that he deformed his fenders to match where the hood was but the reality is this would be no different than putting a 2x4 in the space between the hood and the fender and watching it pry up on the hood as you closed it because again the hinge points for the hood are a fixed non-adjustable pivot so if the hood is raising up because the kit is deforming the hood.

5 of 5 Simplicity itself Sunday, March 1, 2026
Reviewer: Mark Grambling from North Myrtle Beach, SC United States
I purchased a kit a week before I got this one from a well known Miata vendor, and it required drilling and some minor fab work.  The Rspeed one required 2 sockets and a screwdriver, installed in 10 minutes.  Works great.

4 of 5 Easy to install for stock look, washers confusing Thursday, February 19, 2026
Reviewer: Zack Yubinsky from Costa Mesa, CA United States
There's no drilling involved, which is a positive if you care about that. Instructions were easy to follow. The issues I ran into, the lock washer was completely unnecessary for an NA. The threads on the hood stud were too short with both washers. The regular large washer gives at least a couple threads for the nut to hold onto. There are two smaller washer sizes, one is thicker than the other. So figuring out which washer to put where is a bit confusing and not explained. The thin washer went on the ball bolt for the strut and the thick washer I ended up taking off altogether. The screw bolt for the fender bolt replacement was wide enough not to need the washer at all. This setup left me the most flush hood line. I hope this helps someone installing this kit. Overall the quality of the parts is great and the struts are plenty strong enough for the hood(Do not let the hood open by itself with the struts). The couple threads on the hood side is slightly concerning. Overall good quality.

5 of 5 Fits great just use your brain Sunday, April 6, 2025
Reviewer: Eric McKinney from FL United States
Fit is perfect but the instructions aren't, Double washer the fender ball/bolt, only use the lock washer on the hood bracket, lines up perfect with very little hood gap. Suggestions found in Miata forums worked great for me

3 of 5 Not a good fit Friday, November 1, 2024
Reviewer: gino g from TX United States
While the product was easy to install it was not as the video would have you believe.  The good does not close without bulging  the hood up by the hinges and leaving gaps.  I decided to turn the struts upside down to see if they fit better. To a degree they did though there is still a slight bulge and and the gaps are still larger than I’d like or that were previously there.

4 of 5 Hood struts Tuesday, March 21, 2023
Reviewer: Jaime from Los Angeles
I got these because I wanted to be able to just open the hood without the manual prop. The order arrived without any problems but I did run into a bit of a problem with the props keeping the hood up like some have mentioned. I did managed to sort this out and in their videos there is some contradictions of how they are installed. In short I made my own videos and I hope this helps others with the install. https://youtu.be/kg_HvvurebY

Great Product, Solid price point straight forward install.  Very minor mods to the upper fender to make everything flush.

2 of 5 One more review about fitment Tuesday, December 27, 2022
Reviewer: Ben C from Cary, NC United States
Notice how pretty much every review complains that the rear of the hood won't pay flat? I did too but assumed I could do it better...but I had the same problem.

I noticed the brackets are not completely symmetrical. The side where the tab is bent closer to the hood isn't flush. I tweaked it for 20 minutes and nothing changes. I blame quality control but have no desire to start trying to bend this bracket.

Stays open fine but wish I would have steered clear after reading all these complaints. Here's one more that the next person can also ignore. Maybe when we get to 20 people will start paying attention.

2 of 5 Bad Fitment Monday, December 19, 2022
Reviewer: Javier Juan from Houston, TX United States
Hood latches open up as described BUT they make the hood fitment pretty bad. It leaves a gap between hood and fender that is very noticeable.
