The NB Miata uses a knock sensor to prevent detonation, which can save your engine from damage caused by bad gas, excessive heat, etc. The original sensor can degrade and the black center section can melt, causing them not to function as intended.
We've sold and installed these OEM sensors in our shop for decades and are *the* Mazda part in a different box.

The codes below may be present, but often they physicallly fail without any codes being set. Take a look at your sensor next time you do an oil change. (Knock sensor sits above and to the rear of the oil filter.)
