R Speed Dual Hood Lift kits are the best substitutes for the original prop rod; they install on both sides of the hood at the hinge and fenders.
Our handsome dual cylinder lift kit has a durable black finish, and an easy no-drill installation using factory mounting points.

Simply unlatch your hood and watch it rise like magic! No wonder these Miata Hood lifts are so popular. Fits all 1990 - 2005 Miatas.

IMPORTANT NOTE: On some older NAs with worn hood hinges the rear of the hood may rise up a small amount after installing hood struts.

1 of 5 Hate your prop rod! This is not the answer! May 22, 2026
Reviewer: Kris Lessley from Derby, KS United States
At its very design it is putting all the pressure on the hood of the car because it doesn't fit and no matter the low profile screws and the videos touting that you get rid of your prop rod this kit is doomed by its design. The hood on the Miata is mounted to the car at hard point hinges and it latches at a hard point at the front and when you install this it bulges the hood upwards and they show this in the video. Unfortunately I went ahead and purchased this kit and installed it and immediately realized this is not the answer and took it off. If you read other reviews one person actually states that he deformed his fenders to match where the hood was but the reality is this would be no different than putting a 2x4 in the space between the hood and the fender and watching it pry up on the hood as you closed it because again the hinge points for the hood are a fixed non-adjustable pivot so if the hood is raising up because the kit is deforming the hood.

5 of 5 Simplicity itself March 1, 2026

I purchased a kit a week before I got this one from a well known Miata vendor, and it required drilling and some minor fab work.  The Rspeed one required 2 sockets and a screwdriver, installed in 10 minutes.  Works great.

4 of 5 Easy to install for stock look, washers confusing February 19, 2026
Reviewer: Zack Yubinsky from Costa Mesa, CA United States
There's no drilling involved, which is a positive if you care about that. Instructions were easy to follow. The issues I ran into, the lock washer was completely unnecessary for an NA. The threads on the hood stud were too short with both washers. The regular large washer gives at least a couple threads for the nut to hold onto. There are two smaller washer sizes, one is thicker than the other. So figuring out which washer to put where is a bit confusing and not explained. The thin washer went on the ball bolt for the strut and the thick washer I ended up taking off altogether. The screw bolt for the fender bolt replacement was wide enough not to need the washer at all. This setup left me the most flush hood line. I hope this helps someone installing this kit. Overall the quality of the parts is great and the struts are plenty strong enough for the hood(Do not let the hood open by itself with the struts). The couple threads on the hood side is slightly concerning. Overall good quality.

5 of 5 Fits great just use your brain April 6, 2025

Fit is perfect but the instructions aren't, Double washer the fender ball/bolt, only use the lock washer on the hood bracket, lines up perfect with very little hood gap. Suggestions found in Miata forums worked great for me
